Dr. Bryan Smith

Dr. Bryan Smith brings 20 years of experience in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and large technical team leadership to the Earthineering team. His exceptional contributions in the field earned him the prestigious Ferguson Prize in 2004. He holds a Doctorate from Caltech and has been awarded numerous patents, both in the US and internationally. Dr. Smith's entrepreneurial spirit has led him to co-found three successful startups.

As a multidisciplinary team leader, Dr. Smith excels in leveraging advanced analytics and interactive data visualization to empower organizations and individuals in maximizing the value of their data, translating complex technical concepts into actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Dr. Smith has a proven track record of addressing critical business challenges across a wide range of industries, including science, biotech, market research, gaming, healthcare, retail, financial services, and digital marketing.

At Walmart Global Tech, Dr. Smith is currently Group Director, Horizontal Infrastructure and AI, leading initiatives in identity, interoperability, information management, and AI for Walmart Health and Wellness.

Before joining Walmart, Dr. Smith was Co-Founder and CTO of Myia Labs (2017-2022), developing an intelligent health platform for monitoring and engaging patients with chronic conditions. 

At PokitDok, he was Chief Scientist (2015-2018), contributing to a cloud-based platform streamlining healthcare transactions. 

As Director of Sapient (2013-2015), Dr. Smith held leadership roles in data science and innovation. As Senior Scientist in  Machine Learning at Quid (2011-2012), he created predictive models and managed an R&D group. Dr. Smith was also Senior Data Scientist Idle Games (2012), developing an in-game recommendation system and a Facebook ads optimization model.

From 2009 to 2011 Dr. Smith served as Vice President of Neuroscience Research and Director of Research EmSense Corporation, developing predictive models and computational models of human emotion.

Dr. Smith was a Research Fellow at the National Alliance for Medical Image Computing (NA-MIC), a Project Scientist at UCSD / NCMIR, a Scientific Programmer at Cortechs Labs, Inc., and a Graduate Student and Teaching Assistant at the California Institute of Technology.
